The proposal gravitates around a delicate approach of the landscape and its preservation. At the same time it attempts a new fashion to introduce traditional cycladic architectural elements to contemporary architectural vocabulary. The residence is placed at the highest point of the plot, where the slope is mild, among scarce trees and shrubs. Seeking minimal intervention in the natural terrain and scattered dry stone walls, the residence makes up a rectangular volume with two levels. The volume is cleaved by a sequence of enclosures, open and semi-open spaces so that the local building regulations excluding long facades are respected. As a result all the interior spaces open up to the outdoors with an intermediate buffer zone of covered, protected spaces. Since most of the openings face these protected spaces their microclimate, depending on their size and orientation, becomes the microclimate of the according interiors. The west side of the residence is taken up by the living room and the dining room, the east side by the bedrooms and the south by the kitchen. Another three bedrooms and the service rooms are located in the basement. The north part cantilevers above the swimming pool so that it provides shade. With Harry Gugger Studio, DZ Architects and Oliaros.
